The Wellness Committee is to be comprised of, but not necessarily limited to, at least one School Board member, one district administrator, a district food service representative, a student, a parent/guardian, a school health professional, a physical education teacher and a member of the public. Other members may include: teachers, school counselors, coaches, support staff, dieticians, representatives of local or county agencies, representatives of community organizations, food vendors, and other individuals chosen by the district. A goal is that committee membership will include representatives from each school building and reflect the diversity of the community.
The Wellness Committee serves as an advisory committee regarding student health issues and is responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing and updating a school wellness policy; reviews and considers evidence-based strategies and techniques in establishing goals for nutrition education and promotion, physical activity and other school-based activities that promote student wellness; and reviews local assessment to plan for future policy revisions and program changes.
Specifically, at the May 13 meeting, the committee will be seeking input from students in regard to cafeteria menu selections.
For more information, contact Lauren Mowry at lmowry@jcsdk12.org or 717-436-2111, x5166.
The Juniata County School District will be operating on a three-hour delay on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, due to ongoing snow removal and predicted low wind chills. For additional information regarding delays, closures and remote learning, visit www.jcsdk12.org.
Good evening,
In light of a recent incident in our community involving a child being forced into a van, we urge all parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of interacting with strangers.
Please remind your children to stay alert, never approach or accept anything from strangers, and to seek help immediately if they feel unsafe.
If you witness any suspicious activity, report it to local authorities immediately. Your vigilance can help protect our community.
Sincerely,
Christie Holderman

Bus assignments for the 25-26 school year have been posted in the Sapphire Community Portal. If the assigned stop location is not in your area, please contact the Transportation Department immediately to verify or update your student's information. Students at EJES and JES may have different bus assignments from older siblings; if possible, we will accommodate the same bus. Please email schoolbushelp@jcsdk12.org with your student's ID number, name, address, and the requested changes to be made to adjust your stop. You may also contact 717-436-2111 x 5017 if you do not have access to email. August 14, 2025 at 8:00 am will be the last day to make changes for the first day of school. All other requests will be processed after the start of the school year.
General Reminders:
-Please be at your stop location five (5) minutes prior to the assigned time . There is a 5 minute window on either side of your pick up and drop off times.
-Kindergarten and 1st Grade students need to have a parent/guardian present to be let off the bus. We will return your child(ren) to their home school if we cannot reach you.
-If your student has a secondary bus stop location, please refer to their Sapphire portal to see both assignments.
-If your student rides a school vehicle, but needs to be on parent transport for a day or more, please contact your student(s)' building directly, prior to 1230 pm, the day the change is being requested.
